01

What you are doing

Sentinel is the observation layer. Shield is the protective action layer that can open and manage an opposing hedge.

02

Why it matters

A hedge changes the combined directional exposure of the core and protective positions. Its purpose is risk control under strategy rules, not a promise of profit.

03

Before you start

Protection can reduce some downside pressure but adds execution, funding and release risk. Exact proprietary thresholds are intentionally not public.

04

Step by step

  1. 01SLEEPING — the core operates and Shield does not intervene.
  2. 02ARMED — risk conditions approach a protection threshold or are under evaluation.
  3. 03ACTIVE / DEPLOYED — an opposing hedge is active and managed.
  4. 04RELEASE — protection is being reduced or closed when the rules allow.
05

What you should see

When Shield is active, Dashboard shows the protected bot, core long, protective short, hedge ratio and reason/state without exposing proprietary thresholds.

06

Security check

Do not manually alter a managed hedge unless an official HEDGERON incident procedure instructs you to do so.

07

Common problems

Shield is not active during ordinary volatility

That is expected. A sleeping adaptive hedge avoids unnecessary drag when protection conditions are absent.

The hedge has negative realized PnL

Protection can realize a cost when the market recovers; assess the combined core-and-hedge result.
